Security levels
There are two levels at which you can establish security for your database, the application level and the database level.
Application level
At the application level, users are granted an identification and password that enables access to an application. Once users have logged into the application, their access to its database is unlimited.
Database level
At the database level, all application users have access to the database. However, a database administrator (DBA) establishes rules that determine whether users can view or manipulate data. The DBA can define the rules in general or specific terms. Rules can be applied to groups of users or on a user-by-user basis. Rules can also determine whether a user or users can view or manipulate specific tables or even columns within a table.
